- The 990 series, representing New Balance, was born in 1982 as running shoes for on-road use. It was developed using the latest technology and was released for $100, which was a very high price at the time. It became a hot topic when it advertised itself as having a "990 out of 1000 points" in an advertisement at the time, and has continued to evolve over the 14 generations since then.
The 990v6's design eliminates the traditional midfoot saddle, with pigskin suede and synthetic leather overlays flowing over a mesh upper from heel to toe. .
This evolved visual design is one of the most dramatic changes from the previous generation model to this one, but the biggest functional leap is under the hood. With the added cushioning, rebound, and lightness of the FuelCell midsole, the 990's evolution becomes more apparent the more you look at it.
NEW BALANCE
In 1906, New Balance was born in Boston, USA as a manufacturer of arch support insoles and corrective shoes for flat feet.
The name "New Balance" comes from the meaning of "bringing a sense of newness and balance to the wearer." The company began manufacturing custom-made running shoes in the 1960s, based on its know-how as a manufacturer of corrective shoes, which is possible only through knowledge of foot anatomy and a deep understanding of orthopedics and exercise physiology.
Today, while continuing to inherit tradition, we are integrating the latest technology to develop shoes that pursue a better fit.
