Product comment
- This open collar shirt features hand-embroidered appliqués, a traditional Rabari craft, and is made by a single tailor from start to finish.
The Rabari people were originally nomadic and some of them settled in Kutch, Gujarat.
Today, women from the region work together in Kala Raksha, a grassroots social enterprise dedicated to preserving the traditional art form.
KARDO
KARDO was launched in 2013 as an antithesis to mass-produced fast fashion.
Inspired by the rich heritage of traditional Indian craft textiles, over the last decade we have been collaborating and fostering relationships with artisans and textile communities across India.
From there, they have created unique clothing for the modern man, adding a subtle twist to classic silhouettes.
KARDO respects the traditional Indian weaving, dyeing and printing techniques and uses fabrics such as natural dyed handloom, block print, IKAT, natural indigo denim, shibori, chikankari embroidery etc in our collections. We actively support and work with handloom communities across India to ensure that these traditional techniques continue and have as little impact on the environment as possible.
We take it a step further by specialising in "ONE x ONE" production, where each item is cut by hand and sewn from start to finish by a single tailor, with a meticulous hand-finish.
