This diver's watch is said to have evolved through repeated review and revision by Seiko based on advice from one of Japan's leading adventurers, Naomi Uemura, and is commonly known as the "Uemura Diver."
Uemura is one of Japan's leading adventurers, having been the first Japanese to successfully climb Mount Everest and the first person in the world to climb the highest peaks on all five continents.
